(SCOTTSDALE)Larsen Gallery, a national leader in the secondary art market for more than 20 years, will offer three original works by famed American expressionist LeRoy Neiman at the Larsen Art Auction to be held as part of theBentley Scottsdale Polo Championships on Saturday, October 24th at WestWorld of Scottsdale.

“We pride ourselves in offering art enthusiasts and collectors rare, original artwork they desire, and we are thrilled to have these LeRoy Neiman as part of our 2015 Larsen Art Auction,” said Scott Larsen, Owner of Larsen Gallery and Art Auction. “We expect many bidders will be very excited about the opportunity to add one of these important works to their collection.”

Known for his use of bright, bold colors and semi-abstract depictions of cultural icons, LeRoy Neiman became one of the 20th century’s most successful artists. Neiman blurred the lines between fine and popular art creating iconic images that helped define the twentieth century.

Neiman’s works “Tribute to a Heavyweight Champion”, “Seattle Slew at Belmont” and “Saturday Night Fever” can be viewed at the Larsen Gallery in Old Town Scottsdale prior to the auction. The 2015 Larsen Art Auction will be held inside a private VIP bidding tent and is part of the Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships: Horses & Horsepower.

Tribute to a Heavyweight Champion
LeRoy Neiman
Oil on Board
30” x 22”
1976
Estimate: $30,000 – $50,000
“Tribute to a Heavyweight Champion” depicts legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, a close confidant to Neiman. The image was featured on a poster for an event honoring a number of Heavyweight boxing champions in 1977, and is representative of a long relationship between the artist and the prize fighter who helped define the era.

Seattle Slew at Belmont
LeRoy Neiman
Chalk and Varnish on Kraft Paper
42” x 60”
1977
Estimate: $40,000 – $60,000
In addition to people, Neiman also regularly illustrated horses and once said Seattle Slew was one of the most memorable equines he ever sketched. The Triple Crown winner is depicted mid-gallop, and includes his own hoof print in the corner on top of Neiman’s signature.

Saturday Night Fever
LeRoy Neiman
Oil on Canvas
66” x 53”
1961
Estimate: $60,000 – $90,000
“Saturday Night Fever,” an important early Neiman painting, features the loose energetic brushstrokes that are synonymous with the artist’s work from the 1960’s. This painting is reminiscent of Neiman’s “Man at His Leisure” series that was created for Playboy Magazine.
